Volleyball Falls to Brevard in Home Opener

Visiting Tornados defeat Queens in three games

In the 2008 home opening Queens University of Charlotte volleyball game the visiting Brevard College Tornados swept the Royals 3-0 for the win. Brevard won the games by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-19. The loss drops Queens to 1-5 and improves Brevard to 3-1.

Game one saw close action between both teams. Queens held a lead at the 11-7 mark. The Royals were able to hold a point-or-two lead until the 20th point when Brevard tied it up. The teams rallied until the Tornados pulled away for the 25-22 win.

Strong serving by Jami Perry in the second game gave Brevard a 14-7 lead and pushed the Tornados out of reach for Queens. In the second rotation Perry again held serve and was able to give Brevard the 25-15 win.

Queens rallied in game three to again take an early lead. The Royals were unable to hold serve after taking the lead and Brevard was able to sneak back into the game. Everything was tied-up at 14 a-piece when Brook Seaman served four consecutive points to take an 18-14 lead. Breavard won the game 25-19 and took the match in three games.

With nine kills each Keatin McKenzie (Coral Springs, Fla., Cardinal Gibbons )and Anne Henderson (Cayce, S.C., Brookland-Cayce )led the Royals offense. Tamalea Pierce (Asheboro, N.C., SW Randolph )and Henderson had seven digs each during the three games. Setter Amanda Valbert (Champaign, Ill., Champaign Central )had 20 assists.

Seaman totaled 11 kills while Chelsey Trojan had eight for Brevard. Perry led the Tornados with 27 assists and eight digs.

Queens travels to Conference Carolinas opponent Anderson University on Sept. 10 at 6:30pm.
