CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Pfeiffer University Falcons overcame the Queens University of Charlotte Royals in Conference Carolinas volleyball action tonight in Misenheimer, N.C. The Royals fell 3-0, 17-25, 14-25, 15-25, in the contest.
Pfeiffer(20-4/12-1 CC) and Queens (4-21/4-12 CC) traded points for the majority of game one. The Falcons began to pull away at 10-5, but the Royals rallied and would not let the home team take off. An extremely long rally back and forth brought Queens back to within one point at 15-14. An overall team effort brought the 25-17 team victory for the Falcons.
Juniors Kristin King (Haymarket, Va., Battlefield ) and Audrey Hurd (Acworth, Ga., North Cobb Christian ) attacked the net for the Royals, but could not produce enough points to counter the numerous service errors that plagued Queens in the second game. Leading the Falcons on the offense in game two were Brittany Dickens (Wake Forest, NC) and Lauren Spiotta (Batavia, NY). Both teams seemed to struggle a bit defensively, giving away more to errors than earning points on the attack. Pfeiffer took the game 25-14.
Morgan Liebert (Huntersville, NC) led the start of game three with seven unanswered service points for Pfeiffer. The Royals earned a point off of a service error, but Spiotta got the serve back with a solo block. The Falcons led 9-1 before Queens could gather any momentum. The Royals stayed in the game forcing 14 more points, but Pfeiffer took the final game 25-15.
