Queens Falls to St. Andrews, 3-0

The Royals will battle rivals Belmont Abbey on Tuesday night in the Oven.

LAURINBURG, N.C.— Queens University of Charlotte dropped their seventh straight falling to 3-18 overall and 3-9 in the league against St. Andrews on Wednesday night in Laurinburg, N.C.  The Royals lost in three games with scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-13. 
 
With the first set tied for the 10th time, St. Andrews strung together three straight points to gain control of the opening frame and held on for a two-point win.

The Royals led by three (18-15) late in the middle set, but the Knights pushed for  ten consecutive points to win by seven.

After Queens scored the first two points of the third set, the Lady Knights went on a 10-1 outburst to take control. St. Andrews extended its lead to double digits early and cruised to the 12-point win.

In a battle of setters, Royals' junior Amanda Valbert (Champaign, Ill., Champaign Central ) matched Hayes double-double with 16 assists and 12 digs. Senior Keatin McKenzie (Coral Springs, Fla., Cardinal Gibbons )provided the Royals with 10 digs and a team-high nine kills. Freshman Brittany Harvey (Matthews, N.C., Sun Valley )stuffed away a match-high six blocks and senior Tamalea Pierce (Asheboro, N.C., SW Randolph )chipped in with 10 digs and one ace.

Jaime Hayes posted her sixth double-double of the season with her 22 assists and 11 digs while Galina Podolsky just missed her sixth straight double-double with 11 kills and nine digs for St. Andrews. Podolsky tied Hayes with three blocks.

Queens is off for the weekend and will return to action on Tuesday October 14 against conference rivals Belmont Abbey.  The match will begin at 6:30pm in the Oven.
