For the second straight year, Danielle Melilli was named the CSCAA Female Swimmer of the Year. Melilli became the second female Royals swimmer to earn the top honor twice in her career after Patricia Castro-Ortega earned the praise in consecutive years from 2014-15 and 2015-16. Across four days at the NCAA Championships, the Douglasville, Ga. native posted All-America swims in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, 400-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley relay, and the 200-yard medley relay. In the 50-yard freestyle, Melilli shattered the previous NCAA record with a gold medal finish on a time of 22.15.
