Sydney Ditto of the Queens University of Charlotte softball team has been named February Female InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month after helping the Royals get off to their best start in program history.
Ditto, a junior captain, led her team in the month of February helping the Royals capture a 16-3 record and a spot in the NFCA Top 25 for the first time in program history. Starting in all 19 games, Ditto led the Royals with a .418 batting average. She hit five doubles and a triple while also tallying six home runs and 16 RBIs. She also recorded 24 runs and 10 stolen bases.
In a close game with UNC-Pembroke, Ditto hit an RBI single to help her team get on the board after being down by two. She then hit another RBI later in the game to tie the game at 3-3. Ditto completed the game for Queens by earning a walk, stealing second, and then scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh on a double. The second baseman lifted the Royals again in a game versus Francis Marion when she hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning that put the game away and gave Queens the win.
“Syd is the player we want up to the plate with the game on the line,” said Queens head coach Stacey Schramm. "She works extremely well with her co-captains, seniors Abby Lathan and Evie Scott. The three have put the team on the right path and can be credited with much of the success that we have experienced so far."
