Bryce Mortimer joined the Queens men’s and women’s swimming & diving coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season, bringing a strong background as a collegiate student-athlete and coach with experience across collegiate, club and youth swimming.
Mortimer most recently served as a swim camp coach and counselor at Auburn University during the summer of 2026, assisting with team practices, manual timing and stroke technique while working with athletes ages 10-18 across a variety of skill levels.
Prior to Auburn, Mortimer served as an intern assistant coach at Old Dominion University from January through May 2025, completing more than 480 hours of collegiate coaching experience. His responsibilities included on-deck coaching, scouting, community engagement and social media. During his time at Old Dominion, Mortimer also served as the 2025 Tidewater Region Special Olympics Championship Director and Co-Director of Diversity in Aquatics.
Mortimer has additional coaching experience with TIDE Swimming in Virginia Beach, where he served as a part-time assistant coach from August 2024 through May 2026, working with the club’s 14-and-under and 10-and-under groups in both water and dryland training. He also served as head coach of the Ginter Park Dolphins summer league program in Richmond from May 2023 through August 2025. During his tenure, he coached athletes ages 3-18 and helped lead significant program growth, increasing the team’s point total from 121.5 to 531.5. Mortimer previously served as an assistant coach with the Dolphins from May 2021 through August 2022 and as a volunteer coach in 2019.
A four-year student-athlete at Old Dominion University from 2022 through 2026, Mortimer was a two-time conference champion in the 200 breaststroke, winning the event in 2025 and 2026. He was also a two-time NCAA B Cut qualifier, a four-time school-record holder and a five-time Scholastic Team member. Mortimer served on the ODU Leadership Council from 2023-25 and was a senior team leader during the 2025-26 season. He also served as the 2026 Special Olympics Volunteer Coordinator and Championship Meet Director.
Mortimer’s collegiate accomplishments include VaSID recognition, two College Sports Communicators (CSC) honors and three CSCAA honors. He was named ODU’s 2026 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned Academic All-ASUN Team honors in 2025 and 2026. He was also the recipient of the ODU Best Athletic Performance Award in 2025 and was a three-time nominee for ODU Male Athlete of the Year.
Mortimer earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Old Dominion University and the Honors College in May 2025 with a 3.86 GPA. He is expected to complete his master’s degree in sports management from Old Dominion in August 2026, maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
In addition to his coaching experience, Mortimer is proficient in TeamManager and MeetManager software, TeamUnify and Canva, with skills in data analysis, social media, event planning, recruiting and stroke technique. He is also lifeguard and First Aid certified and is a certified USA Swimming coach.
