Cheryl Nix enters the 2011-12 season as the Head Coach of the women's basketball team. She served as an assistant for two seasons before being named head coach during the 2010-11 season.

The 2009-2010 season marked the second consecutive winning season for the Royals, and it was their most successful campaign of the decade. Queens finished tied in third place in Conference Carolinas with 18-12 overall record. The Royals earned a spot in the Conference Carolinas Championship game finishing as the runner-up. They also finished the year ranked in the top 20 in rebounding margin and free throw percentage.

Nix is not a new face to Queens or coaching at the collegiate level. Prior to coming to Queens, Nix was the head coach of the women’s basketball team at Winthrop University for four years (2000-2004) and Cumberland University for five years (1995-2000).

While at Winthrop, Nix was voted the 2004 Big South Conference Women's Basketball Chair and served as a NCAA Rules Committee Member. Nix coached four Big South Academic Honor recipients, one Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year, one Carolina Panther Outstanding Scholar-Athlete, four Big South All-Conference Team members, and three Big South All-Freshman Team members.

In 2001 Nix was was ranked 29th nationally for overall wins among all head coaches with less than five years NCAA Division I experience with a record of 114-71.

One big accomplishment was the first ever school win against Radford at the Dedmon Center. The Eagles fought back from 11 points down with 9:45 on the clock to defeat Radford 62-56 with only six players suited up for the game.

During her tenure at Cumberland she became the school’s all-time winningest coach in school history with a record of 106-51 in just five seasons. Nix led Cumberland to the NAIA Division I National Tournament for the first time in school history in 1999 and Don Fox, mayor of Lebanon, Tenn., named 1999 the Year of the Lady Bulldog. Before the national tournament, Cumberland won the Mid-South Conference regular season title and they were also the conference tournament champions. Nix was named the 1999 Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year also.

While at Cumberland, Nix coached one All-American First Team member, one All-American Honorable Mention Team member, 12 All-Conference Team members, and 14 All-Academic members.

Before becoming a coach, Nix was a stand-out player for Clemson University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education. She is currently ranked sixth in Clemson all-time career free throw percentage, ninth in all-time career three point field goal percentage, and sixth in all-time individual game three point field goal percentage.

After graduating from Clemson in 1989, Nix continued her education receiving her Masters in Guidance and Counseling from the university in 1991.
