Scott Taylor

The 2012-13 season will mark Scott Taylor’s fifth season as the top assistant on the Queens men’s basketball staff. Since becoming Coach Long’s first hire in July 2008, Taylor has been an integral part of the growth of the Royals program. During the past four years, Taylor has served as Queens’ recruiting coordinator, where he has become a well-respected and successful recruiter. Coach Taylor’s first three recruiting classes helped the Royals win the back-to-back Conference Carolinas regular season championship during 2011 and 2012.

“Watching Scott’s personal and professional growth over the past four years has been gratifying,” Long said. “He has become a fantastic young coach in nearly every facet, and has quickly turned himself into a formidable recruiter. We have signed four very good classes due to his hard work and relentless efforts. Scott’s passion for our young men is a huge plus for our program, and is a great source of confidence for me. It is a great comfort to have someone who is prepared to handle so many responsibilities. He has become a terrific young coach, but more importantly, is a humble leader and a great role model for our players.”

In addition to heading up the Royals’ recruiting efforts, Taylor’s duties include scouting, individual workouts, on-floor coaching, organizing camps, and various other administrative duties. Prior to his arrival at Queens, Taylor served one season as an assistant coach at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Taylor helped Carson-Newman to 18 wins in 2007-08, the highest win total for the Eagles in six years.

Taylor is a 2004 graduate of Florida State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management. While at FSU, Taylor served as a student manager for the Seminole basketball program under head coaches Steve Robinson, now an assistant at UNC, and Leonard Hamilton. He spent his final three years as the head manager.

A 30-year old native of Greenville, North Carolina, Taylor earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from Carson-Newman in 2011.
