CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte has named
Jake McBride head men's golf coach,
Cherie Swarthout, director of athletics, announced today. McBride joins the Royals after serving as Catawba's assistant men's and women's golf coach last season.
"We are excited to have Jake lead our men's golf program as we head into the 2026-27 season," Swarthout said. "His experience competing at a high level both collegiately and professionally, combined with his transition into coaching, gives him a unique perspective that will be invaluable to the development of our student-athletes. Jake brings a competitive mindset, a passion for the game, and a strong commitment to helping our Royals succeed. We are excited about the future of Queens men's golf under his leadership."
In addition to overseeing daily operations for the programs at Catawba, McBride also lead recruiting efforts and organized individualized and structured practices. The Catawba men's golf program improved from 58
th to 9
th nationally, winning four events along the way. Additionally, the women's golf program set a new scoring record and new season scoring average. McBride oversaw five individual wins, four coming on the men's side, while also having a hand in recruiting multiple high-level players to the women's programs.
"I'm incredibly honored and excited for the opportunity to be the head men's golf coach at Queens University of Charlotte," McBride commented. "There's a lot to be excited about with this program, and I believe we can build something that our players, alumni, university, and community can be proud of. I want to create a culture where our guys can develop as players and people, while competing with the best teams in the country. I'm excited to get to work and lay the foundation for something that can be successful for years to come."
McBride first came to the Carolinas to attend NC State, where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration in 2017. The Hartville, Ohio, native was also a standout golfer for the Wolfpack after ranking top 20 on the Junior Golf Scoreboard coming out of high school. As a student-athlete, he racked in 11 top 10 finishes, turning in four runner-up performances. His 72.86 scoring average is seventh in Wolfpack history, and he placed second at the 2016 ACC Championship. McBride also earned PING All-Region Team honors in his senior season.
Following graduation, McBride continued his golf career professionally, competing on the PGA Latin America, PGA Mackenzie, and Korn Ferry Tours. In 2021, he won the Ohio Open Championship. He has also served as a golf instructor in the Charlotte metro area throughout his professional playing career.
