Queens Men's Tennis Shows Grit but Falls to Wofford in First-Ever Meeting

THE SHORT STORY: 
The Queens University men's tennis team (0-2) put up a strong fight but fell 5-2 to Wofford (1-2) in their first-ever meeting on Saturday at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Royals secured two singles victories but were unable to overcome Wofford's solid all-around performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In doubles play, Queens struggled to gain early momentum. The No. 1 duo of Laurenz Blickwede and Win Steveker fell 1-6 to Wofford's Robbie Young and Jack Deveney.
- At No. 2 doubles, Jake Grimes and Lukas Gosselin were defeated 2-6 by Hugo Rask and Ian Rasheed, giving Wofford the doubles point.
-The No. 3 match featuring Luke Coppage and Gavin Ryan was left unfinished at 3-3.
- In singles action, the Royals found some success. Laurenz Blickwede delivered a dominant performance at the No. 1 position, defeating Robbie Young 6-3, 6-0.
- Win Steveker followed suit with an impressive comeback win at No. 2 singles, rallying from a set down to secure a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jack Deveney.
- Despite these victories, Wofford secured wins at the remaining four positions. Jake Grimes fell 3-6, 2-6 at No. 3, while Gavin Ryan put up a strong fight but ultimately lost 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 at No. 4. Luke Coppage and Filippo Scala were also defeated in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Queens returns to action on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, with a road matchup against South Carolina. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
