Queens Earns Draw in Season Finale

CARROLLTON, GA. – Graduate student Sophia Muetterties netted an early goal in the 7th minute, but it was not enough for the Royals as they earned a draw against ASUN newcomer West Georgia. With the tie, the Royals concluded the regular season at 5-10-4 overall and 1-6-4 in league play.

TURNING POINT 
The Royals struck quick in the match, opening up the contest with three corner kicks in the opening six minutes. It was the corner attempt from Girah Durant that led to Sophia Muetterties goal to give the Royals an early 1-0 advantage. Defensively, the Royals withstood multiple West Georgia opportunities led by Sejla Pozic and Savannah Stuart. A strike from deep turned out to be the equalizing goal in the 69th minute for the Wolves. 

KEY STATS & NOTES 

  • Sophia Muetterties goal is her fifth of the season and 12th as a Royal. Muetterties concludes the season as the team leader in goals and points (10) and sets the programs single season record in goals as a Division I member.  

  • Girah Durant sets the Queens Division I program record in a single season with four assists.

  • Queens held a 6-2 shot advantage at the end of the first half but only put up one shot after the break. 

  • West Georgia controlled the corner kick advantage by a 10-5 margin. Queens did not take a corner kick in the second half.  

  • The Royals finish the season with five wins in the third year of the Division I era. This is the most wins in a season since making the transition to Division I.
