Queens Women's Rugby Unveils 2023 Season Schedule

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University Head Women's Rugby Coach Dana Meschisi has released the Royals' 2023 regular season schedule. The 2023 campaign will be the first Division 1 schedule for the defending D2 champions as they will go against 11 teams this season.

"The preparation going into our first official D1 season began last year, resulting in a D2 National Championship", said Meschisi. "However, our focus has been on raising our skillset to that of our D1 peers. We've anticipated playing more technically sound teams and have adjusted our coaching staff to meet those standards. As we prepare for preseason, I'm excited to see the progress with returning and incoming players; having followed an adjusted S&C program throughout the summer. Our number one goal this season is executing our playing structure as fundamentally sound as possible. Fitness and defense won us the championship, polishing our standards of play will be the key to a successful D1 season."

The Royals will start their season on Sep. 2 as they will travel to Annapolis to face Navy and the B-team will go against Lander to kick off the season. The Royals will then host their first game of the season against the Charlotte Rugby Club on Sep. 9 followed by welcoming Harvard for a matchup on Sep. 16. Queens will then have their second doubleheader of the season as they will travel to go against Brown and Mount. St. Mary on Sep. 23.

On Oct. 7, the Royals will head to State College to face Penn State and will then return home for matchups against Long Island and Florida State on Oct. 14. For the last road trip of the regular season, Queens will travel to face Princeton and another team that will be announced soon.
