CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Department of Athletics continues to roll out the end of the year awards following the completion of the 2022-23 season. Tuesday afternoon, Queens announced the two Pamela Davies Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
Departmental awards will be released weekly during the month of June and early-July as Queens will announce winners of the Royal Service Award, Royals Sportsmanship Award, Mark Kelso "Just Show Up" Award, Male and Female Comeback Athletes of the Year, Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and the Male and Female Senior Athletes of the Year. In addition to the individual awards, the department will also recognize performance-based accomplishments for teams and individuals including Men's and Women's Team Comeback Win of the Year, Best Male and Female Individual and Team Championship Performance, and Men's and Women's Upset of the Year.
Pamela Davies Scholar-Athletes of the Year
Presented by the Department of Athletics to a student-athlete who has attained a strong academic record and has excelled in their sport. The award is named after former University president Pamela Davis who served the institution for 17 years (2002-2019), distinguishing herself through her commitment to providing innovative and high quality education and building community partnerships that enhance the educational experience of Queens students.
Male Winner – Jan Delkeskamp, Men's Swimming
Delkeskamp is a recently graduated senior who ended his perfect 4.0 career GPA. The Wermelskirchen, Germany native walked the stage in the spring, earning a degree as a Finance major.
In addition to his success in the classroom, Jan contributed numerous top-five finishes in the CCSA Conference championships and added a top-10 finish at the National Invitational Championship. He was also named a finalist for the Walter Byers Scholarship, and most recently, was a recipient of the Mark Kelso "Just Show Up" Award.
Female Winner – Cerys Lee, Women's Track & Field
Lee was also a part of the 2023 graduating class. After a stellar senior season, which saw her place in the top 10 at the ASUN Heptathlon Championships, Lee was named to the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District Team with a 4.0 GPA.
