TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (28-3, 21-3 South Atlantic Conference) will be the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Southeast Regional, as announced by the league on Sunday night. The Royals will travel to Augusta, Ga. as Augusta University earned the top seed in the region after recording a 28-3 overall record and 15-3 mark in Peach Belt Conference play. Queens will square off with Columbus State University (20-10, 10-8 Peach Belt Conference) on Saturday, March 12. The game time is still TBD.
The Royals enter the NCAA Tournament fresh off their fifth conference championship, and second South Atlantic Conference Championship title. Queens will be making their 15
th appearance in the big dance, including their seventh straight. The Royals are no stranger to March as the Royals have made a pair of Elite Eight appearances as well as two Final Four runs. Most recently, Queens fell to Emmanuel College in the first-round last season 80-78. Queens reached the Final Four in 2017-18 and fell just short to No. 6 Northern State, 105-99, in double overtime. The following season, Queens reached the Elite Eight and fell to No. 6 Point Loma 87-74 marking the last time the Royals advanced past the Sweet 16.
The Royals have been one of the nation's premier programs all season long sitting in the top 10 of the national rankings for most of the season. Queens carries one of the longest current winning streaks into the dance in part to their explosive offensive. The Royals are top 25 in scoring offense pouring in 86.0 points per game on 47-percent shooting from the field. South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year
Jamari Smith has been one of the country's best players averaging 17.1 points per game while pulling down 7.0 rebounds. Veteran
Kenny Dye has facilitated the Royals offense dishing out 5.3 assists per game while adding 14.0 points per game. Both Smith and Dye were named to the 2022 Bevo Francis Top 50 Watch List, an award given to the nation's most impressive player within small college basketball.
Columbus State is returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017 and for the 14th time in program history. It's the fifth trip under the guidance of 12th-year head coach Robert Moore, who took the Cougars to the Southeast Regional in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The Cougars are 20-10 entering the NCAA Tournament after reaching the semifinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. CSU fell 87-75 to 10th-ranked Augusta in its bid to reach the conference championship game.
The Royals and the Cougars will tip off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 12 inside Christenberry Fieldhouse located on the campus of Augusta University.
