WINSTON SALEM, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's track and field programs had great debuts on Saturday at the Winston Salem College Kickoff as multiple athletes hit personal bests and top 25 finishes across the board. The event saw some of the best programs across all NCAA Divisions compete, including Division I opponents from Queens, Charlotte, Davidson, Duke, Elon, NC A&T, NC Central, NC State, USC Upstate, and Wake Forest.
How It Happened:
- Matthew Sweetenburg debuted at #4 on the 60m with a time of 7.13.
- Amadeus Waluga who already holds the second-best mark in program history finished fifth in shot put at 14.10m.
- Jakob Nutzel & Austin Cline debuted with the eighth and ninth best marks in program history in shot-put throwing 13.70m and 12.64m.
- Christina Palmer posted the third best shot-put mark in program history with 12.82m.
- Melissa Delgado (11:59.81), Tristen Jones (8:45.13), and Naim Bell (9:13.29) all started the season with personal bests in the 3,000m.
- Natalia Rodriguez (1.49m) is now No. 10 in school history in women's High Jump.
- Amadeus Waluga (14.16m) also placed 11th in the weight throw and Jakob Nutzel (11.86m) and Austin Cline (11.78m) finished 13th and 14th.
The Royals will race again in Allendale, Michigan on Friday, December 9th as they will compete at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open at 1:00 p.m.
