GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte Women's Rugby team defeated Lander University in its season opening match in a dominant 39-0 performance. Queens defeated its first NIRA opponent of the season in a 10-a-side match to open the 2021 season in the win column.
Seven different Royals scored on seven tries and two conversions.
Jenna Klenz scored the first try of the season shortly after the opening minute.
Teaghan Steele and
Megan Reed followed with tries to take a 15-0 lead over the Bearcats.
Following a conversion by
Maddie Hughes,
Juliet Stone and
Jada Medellin scored tries to extend the lead to 27-0.
Steele scored a conversion at the 11:02 mark and
Shelby Tippin and Medellin finished the match with tries to cap the 39-0 victory.
Queens advances to 1-0 and will travel to take on Coastal Carolina next Saturday at 1 p.m.
