Queens Opens SAC Play with Shutout Win over Wingate

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team improved to 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference play after defeating Wingate University (2-1, 0-1), 2-0, at Dickson Field this evening. The game was the league opener for both teams this season and the win for Queens was the first over the Bulldogs since the 2016 season.

Super senior forward Emma Rose Stockton scored tonight's game-winner with a goal in the 11th minute of action. The goal was also the first for Stockton this season, and the Royals took the 1-0 lead into intermission.

In the second, Queens found their insurance goal in the 63rd when Nia Gaither found the back of the net on a pass from Sophia Muetterties.

Despite being outshot, 14-10, by the Bulldogs, the Royals were able to match Wingate's shot on goal count at eight.

In goal, Queens' Erica Turner collected her third shutout win of the season after totaling eight saves.

Queens will be back at home on Saturday at 5 p.m. welcoming Newberry College to Dickson Field.
