Anabel Knoll Secures Women’s Spot for German Olympic Triathlon Team

GERMANY – Queens University of Charlotte women's triathlon graduate Anabel Knoll secured the final women's spot for the German Olympic Triathlon team at Germany's Olympic Trials Race on the morning of May 26. As a result, Knoll will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Knoll is the first-ever varsity triathlete to qualify for the Olympics since women's triathlon became an NCAA emerging sport. Additionally, she will be the first Queens triathlete to compete in the Olympics.

Queens head triathlon coach Sonni Dyer spoke about Knoll's accomplishment stating, "We were the first collegiate triathlon program to win a varsity women's national title in 2015, the first to win both varsity and club titles in 2019, and the first Division II school to win a USAT Club Title also in 2019. It was important for us to be the first to accomplish this milestone as well."

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, postponed due to COVID -19, will be held from July 23- August 8.
