ANDERSON, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (1-0-1, 1-0-0 SAC) opened South Atlantic Conference play with a win over Anderson University (0-2, 0-2 SAC) this evening, 3-1 on the road.
Anderson's Spencer Heming opened up with the first and only goal the Trojans would have in the game in the sixth minute of play. A few Royals had shots on goal in the opening half but were unable to find the equalizer as Anderson held a 1-0 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Queens quickly evened the score in the 49th minute when
Emma Rose Stockton took a shot from near midfield that snuck past the keeper for her first goal of the year. Just one minute later,
Logan Farrelly scored the go-ahead goal after finding the back of the net on an assist from
Karen Juarez. Nia Gathier added an insurance goal in the 86th minute of play, scoring from just outside the box.
The reigning SAC Defensive Player of the Week,
Erica Turner, had six saves in the game and Queens outshot Anderson 12-9 in the contest.
Queens returns home to Dickson Field next Thursday to welcome Limestone University for a match scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
