Queens Season Opener Ends In Tie with Wingate

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (0-0-1, 0-0-1 SAC) opened their season against the Wingate University Bulldogs (0-0-1, 0-0-1 SAC) this evening, playing to a 0-0 tie.

Nia Gaithers and Grace Sain combined for six total shots in the game, placing three on goal. In the first half, Sain had a good look turned away in the 20th minute as Wingate's goalkeeper Haley Faucette collected the save. Gaithers would also have a good look in the opening period, sending a header to goal that was saved by Faucette.

The Royals' final chance to score would come in the 105th minute when Gaither got behind her defender to go one-on-one with Faucette. Unfortunately, her shot would go wide and count as the final shot of the night for Queens.

The Royals outshot Wingate, 9-6, though the Bulldogs would place five shots on goal compared to Queens' four. Additionally, Queens goalkeeper Erica Turner totaled five saves on the night while Faucette finished with four.

Queens will play again next Thursday, February 25, traveling to S.C., to take on Anderson University. The match begins at 5:00 pm.
