Queens Advances to SAC Semis with Double Overtime Win Over Railsplitters

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior midfielder Karen Juarez scored tonight's golden goal in the 105th minute of action to lift the second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (14-3-1) over the seventh-seeded Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters (7-7-2) in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Championship.

Despite outshooting the Railsplitters 12-6 in regulation, Queens was able to put just one shot on goal as neither team found the back of the net in 90 minutes of action which forced tonight's match into overtime.

The Railsplitters put five shots on goal, all of which were saved by Queens' Erica Turner. Turner recorded her 12th shutout win of the season tying her for first in the nation in the category.

Juarez's game-winner was the second of the season for the senior who now has three goals this season.

Queens will compete in the semifinal round of the SAC Championship on Friday, Nov. 12 facing third-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne. The Royals' lone conference loss of the season was at the hands of the Bears on the road this season. Friday's match will be played at 2 p.m. in Matthews, N.C., at the Matthews Sportsplex.
