SALISBURY, N.C.– The second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (16-5-1) fell 2-0 to seventh-seed Lenoir-Rhyne University (12-5-3) in the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship this afternoon at Frock Field.
Despite Queens outshooting the Bears, 17-6, this afternoon, two goals from Lenoir-Rhyne's Kara Gavaghan would seal the fate of the Royals as they were unable to place one in the net. Queens totaled eight shots on goal to Lenoir-Rhyne's three.
Gavaghan was able to find the back of the net at 14:32 to give Lenoir-Rhyne an early 1-0 lead that they were able to hold until intermission. She then snuck in on far post to receive a cross and score an insurance goal for the Bears at 46:28.
Sophia Muetterties led the Royals with four shots, putting two on goal.
Emma Rose Stockton and
Karen Juarez had three shots apiece, each putting one on goal, while
Nia Gaither put both of her shots on goal.
Erica Turner finished the day with one save while Lenoir-Rhyne's goalkeeper, Grayson Cameron, collected eight saves in the match.
