CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte Department of Athletics has set a new benchmark after recording a GPA of 3.40 for the 2020 fall semester. The Royals were able to surpass the fall semester GPA record of 3.36 set a year ago despite current unprecedented circumstances leading the University to move to 100-percent remote learning.
Â
"We are very proud of the perseverance, resiliency, and focus of our student-athletes during this past semester," Queens director of athletics Cherie Swarthout states. "They have once again delivered another level of excellence. I would also like to share my gratitude for our coaching staff who has provided unprecedented support and guidance to each of their programs during this past semester. I extend gratitude to our faculty as well, who continually go above and beyond to deliver an outstanding Queens experience in the classroom."
Â
The women's triathlon team held on to their 2019-20 season overall lead in the department after recording a 3.86 while men's swimming had the highest GPA among the Queens men's programs with a 3.53. Also noteworthy were the women's volleyball team (3.84) and the women's soccer program (3.75) who completed the overall top three.Â
Â
Queens Athletics also saw 107 student-athletes record 4.0s for the semester compared to just 65 last fall. Additionally, 277 student-athletes recorded a 3.75 or higher and 416 recorded a 3.3 or higher. Each group of student-athletes is now eligible to either become a member of the Athletic Royal Society, Athletic Gold Standard, or the Royals Athletic Director's Honor Roll pending their spring academic performance.Â
Â
This semester's performance follows a 2019-2020 season that saw the Royals record the highest GPA (3.43) in department history.
Â
The Royals' winter athletic seasons are currently underway and the spring and fall seasons are scheduled to begin in February.Â
Â
Queens' student body is scheduled to return to campus for the spring semester in January. For more information on the Royal Return plan, click here.
