Phan Scores Golden Goal in Win over Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – Junior forward Lulu Phan dribbled the ball up the field and settled it in front of the goal this afternoon before drilling a shot over the goalkeeper and into the net in the 102nd minute of play to lift Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team past Clayton State University, 2-1. The double overtime nonconference win over the Lakers moves the Royals to 4-1 while Clayton State drops to 3-1 on the year after being handed their first loss of the season.

After today's first half of play ended with both teams knotted at 0-0, Anamaria Evans put the Royals on the board in the 48th minute sending the ball into the back of the net following a corner kick. The goal was the first of her collegiate career. Soon after, the Lakers equalized the match with a goal in the 53rd scored by Janne Brouer.

The 1-1 score held until Phan scored the game's golden goal helping to extend the Royals' win streak to three.

Though Clayton State outshot the Royals 17-6, Queens was able to keep the shot on goal margin much closer putting five shots on goal to the Lakers' eight shots on frame. In goal, Erica Turner totaled seven saves to record her third win in a row.

The Royals are back in action on the road at Catawba on Wednesday, September 18 at 5 p.m.
