MATTHEWS, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team (9-1) completed its 15-a-side fall season Sunday afternoon as they defeated the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 74-8 to become the 2019 USA Rugby Men's Division II National Champions, hosted at the Matthews Sportsplex.
The Royals avenged last year's loss to the Warhawks in the tournament in the Final Four round, 45-36, where they later fell to Iowa Central Community College (34-22) in the battle for third to finish fourth overall in the tournament.
Queens'
Dominic Tianga nearly tied his career-high tries scored this season (4) with three on the day to lead the Royals in the win. The freshman now totals 15 tries on the year.
Junior
Benji Hund ran in two tries for Queens as well, while
Thomas Keay,
Zion Thomas,
Prince-Louis Bush,
Stanton Johnson,
Devon McCarthy,
Raitavius Whitner, and
Carson Green each tallied one.
Green also connected on six conversions, along with freshman
Jack Williams who recorded one.
The Royals will return to action in the spring for their 7-a-side season. A schedule will be announced at a later date.
