CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (12-5-1) completed the regular season at 5-4 in South Atlantic Conference play to earn the No. 6 seed in the 2019 SAC Women's Soccer Championship. They will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to face third-seeded Carson-Newman (10-5-1, 7-2-1) on Saturday, November 9 in the quarterfinal round.
The Royals closed out the regular season on a four-game winning streak where they did not give up a single goal. In their final game at home, Queens defeated Anderson 1-0 on a goal from
Victoria Templin. The goal was the first of her collegiate career.
Carson-Newman edged Tusculum 3-2 in overtime in their final game of the regular season. Emily Futrell led the way scoring two goals on the night, one being the game-winning goal in the 95
th minute of action.
This season, Futrell leads the Eagles with 20 points on nine goals and two assists. She also has three game-winning goals. Kristina Markfort follows with 10 points on three goals and four assists. In goal, Jasmine Rizk is 10-5-1 with a .814 save percentage.
Queens is led by
Nia Gaither who has 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. She also has five game-winning goals.
Emma Rose Stockton follows with 14 points on six goals and two assists.
Erica Turner is 12-5-1 on the year in goal with a .824 save percentage.
Carson-Newman won the regular season match-up between the pair by a score of 3-1. Markfort scored twice in the win while Futrell tallied the third goal. For Queens,
Lulu Phan scored the lone goal of the game.
The Royals' last win over the Eagles came in the 2014 season.
