WINGATE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team fell to Wingate University, 2-0, in its South Atlantic Conference opener today. Wingate will advance to 2-1-0 on the season with the win while the regionally ranked fifth Royals will put their first loss of the season on the board and fall to 2-1-1.
 
The SAC Championship Quarterfinals rematch began with a Bulldogs goal 11 minutes into play. Kimmi Moore would receive a lofted pass in the middle of the box and head it into the net to put Wingate up 1-0. The Royals battled to tie things up accumulating four shots on goal in the first half, but all went wide or were saved by the Bulldogs' keeper Alexis Jones.
 
Wingate's second goal of the day would come in the 57th minute of the second half. Kaitlyn Fletcher sent the ball into the box on a corner kick which deflected off Carly Veit to Moore who put the ball into the back of the net once again. The Royals continued to fight back as both Jasmin Singh and Charlotte Ring generated scoring opportunities in the second half but neither would allow Queens to get on the scoreboard before time expired.
 
Queens goalkeeper Rachel Quest totaled eight saves in today's match. Ring led Queens' offense with two shots on goal while Alana Jefferson, Leanne Bryant, and Singh all had a shot on goal apiece.
 
Queens is back on the road for their second conference game of the season on Saturday, September 16 when they will travel to Harrogate, Tenn., to play Lincoln Memorial University at 1 p.m.
