CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season this evening, defeating Limestone College by a score of 2-0. The win is the first for Queens Head Coach
Denise Brolly since she took control over the program. Queens now sits at 1-2 on the season while the Saints, ranked sixth in the southeast region, fall to 1-1 on the year.
The Royals got on the board early in this evening's contest with a goal from junior midfielder
Alana Jefferson in just the third minute of play.
Thea Mallett recorded the assist on the play, finding Jefferson in the center of the box for a quick shot into the back of the net. Queens would take the 1-0 lead into the break thanks in large part to goal keeper
Rachel Quest tallying five saves in the period.
Queens' second goal would come in the 47
th minute from the boot of sophomore forward
Charlotte Ring. Ring would drill a shot in the back of the net from about 30 yards out to give the home team a 2-0 lead that they would hold onto until time expired.
Queens was outshot 22-14 by the Saints with Limestone totaling 11 shots on goal to the Royals' four. Quest took the shutout win after recording 10 saves. Karen An Der Brugge of Limestone completed play with two saves.
The Royals will be back at home on Monday against Lees-McRae College. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
