Mallett Nets Goal as Royals Fall at Tusculum

GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team opened South Atlantic Conference play this evening falling 2-1 to the Tusculum College Pioneers on the road. The loss brings the Royals' record to 2-3 on the year, while the Pioneers improve to 3-2-1.

The Royals got on the board early as freshman midfielder Thea Mallett found the back of the net in the seventh minute on a direct kick from 23 yards out. Queens would hold on to the narrow 1-0 lead until the 28th minute when Carly Mill scored a goal off of a corner kick for the Pioneers.

The score remained knotted at 1-1 until Tusculum's Sonja Ballmert put the ball in the net in the 81st for what would eventually be the game winner. Ballmert scored her goal off of a free kick into the box from Olivia Kilgore. Kilgore assisted on both of the Pioneers' goals today.

Queens would outshoot Tusculum this evening, 16-7, but both teams put seven shots on frame. Rachel Quest completed her time in goal with five saves.

Queens will return home to face Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday, September 17 at 2 p.m. Last season the Royals and the Railsplitters played to a 0-0 draw.
