Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (3-3) defeated Tusculum College 1-0 this evening for the first time ever in women's soccer action to open up South Atlantic Conference play at 1-0. The Pioneers now sit at 3-3 on the year and open up conference play at 0-1.
Tonight's game was won on a penalty kick by junior defender
Ashley Osiecki in the 59
th minute of play. Senior forward
Mary Stringini beat her player one-on-one inside the box before getting fouled hard by Olivia Kilgore resulting in the penalty kick. Osiecki stepped up and put the ball in the upper right corner of the net for the 1-0 score which would hold until the end of regulation.
The Royals outshot Tusculum 22-12, registering seven shots on goal to the Pioneers' three. Taking the win in goal was
Tori Danchak who totaled three saves. Miriah Martin of Tusculum recorded six saves.
Queens will return to action on the road this weekend, continuing conference play at Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
