Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team improved to 2-2-1 in South Atlantic Conference play today after defeating Lenoir-Rhyne University,1-0, at Dickson field. The Royals' overall record now sits at 4-5-1, while the Bears, ranked fourth in the region, sit at 6-4 on the year and 3-2 in the league.
Following a first half that saw the Royals outshot 7-0 by the Bears, Queens'
Charlotte Ring put the Royals on the scoreboard with today's game winner in the 57
th minute of play. A foul awarded the Royals a free kick, which defender
Ashley Osiecki took sending a ball into play from just across midfield. Ring raced into the box to meet the ball, chesting it for control before sending it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Queens completed the game with six shots, putting three on goal. The Bears would finish with 15, putting seven on frame.
Tori Danchak took the win in goal after totaling seven saves. Once again, the Royals' backline was key in helping Danchak keep the Bears, who rank second in the SAC with 32 goals this season, scoreless for her fourth shutout of the season. This was just the second time that the Bears have been shutout this season. The first time came against No. 11 Barry.
Today's win over the Bears is the first for Queens since joinging the SAC. Queens' last win over Lenoir-Rhyne was during the 2009 season.
The Royals are back in action on Wednesday at Catawba College. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
