Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's
Charlotte Ring recorded the first hat trick of her collegiate career this evening as the Royals defeated Mars Hill University, 4-1, in women's soccer action. Queens improves to 6-5-1 on the year and 4-2-1 in South Atlantic Conference play with the win, while the Lions fall to 2-10 on the year and 1-6 in league play.
Queens got off to a quick start today netting two goals in the opening three minutes of action. Ring was the first to strike putting a shot on goal that slipped through Tori Stajduhar's , Mars Hill's goalkeeper, hands and into the net. Thirty-five seconds later,
Logan Vitale sent a pass to
Kathy Fisher on the right side of the field who then took a shot that floated into the left corner of the net. The Royals would take their 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second, Queens outshot the Lions 17-1 en route to putting two more goals on the board, both coming from Ring. In the 49
th minute, Ring put the home team ahead 3-0 with a shot taken from just outside of the box. She then scored again in the 70
th after finding a cross sent into the box by Fisher and burying it in the net.
Mars Hill's lone goal of the night would come in the 81
st from Rachel Blong.
The Royals completed regulation outshooting the Lions, 26-2, putting 14 shots on goal.
Tori Danchak took the win in goal, while Stajduhar of Mars Hill took the loss after totaling nine saves.
The Royals are back in action on Wednesday when they welcome Pfeiffer University to Dickson Field at 5:00 p.m.
