Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior forward
Mary Stringini scored tonight's game winner over the Limestone College Saints, helping the Royals collect a 2-0 non-conference road win. Queens University of Charlotte improves to 8-7-2 on the year with the win, while the Saints, ranked third in Conference Carolinas, fall to 9-3-3.
Stringini would score the game winning goal in just the fourth minute of action after making her sixth start of the season. Following a shot by Queens' sophomore defender
Ashley Osiecki that was saved, the Royals would repossess the ball allowing Osiecki to serve it back into the box, where Stringini delivered a header into the left side of the net.
The 1-0 score would hold until the 84
th minute when sophomore forward
Sydney Michelin was able to collect a through ball from Stringini, and put it in the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
The Saints would see a number opportunities to score, putting eight of their nine shots on frame, but Queens back line remained as strong as they have been all season not allowing them much room to breathe. Goalkeeper
Tori Danchak collected her sixth shutout of the season after totaling seven saves.
Prior to this evening's match, the Saints were on a six game win streak at home. They had also scored at least one goal in every home game before being held scoreless by the Royals tonight.
