Osiecki nets two in Royals victory

Box Score MARS HILL, N.C. – Sophomore defender Ashley Osiecki scored two goals today to help the Royals capture a 2-1 win over Mars Hill University in women's soccer action. Queens University of Charlotte improved to 4-2-2 in South Atlantic Conference play and 6-6-2 on the season following the win, while the Lions fall to 0-8 in the league and 0-13-1 on the year.
 
Mars Hill was able to grab a 1-0 lead early in today's game on a shot from Rachel Blong from 20 yards out. The goal in the seventh minute of play would be the only of the first half as each team combined for a total of just five shots in the period.
 
Queens was much more aggressive offensively in the second half outshooting the Lions 14-1. Osiecki's first goal would not come until the 71st minute when she received a through ball from Mary Stringini and put it in the net, tying the game at 1-1.
 
Osiecki then scored the game-winner in the 88th, connecting on a penalty kick following a foul inside the box by the Lions.
 
The Royals outshot Mars Hill, 17-3, and won six corner kicks to the Lions' zero.
 
Emily Mager picked up her first win of the season in goal for Queens.
 
The Royals are back at Dickson Field on Wednesday against Wingate University at 5 p.m.
