Royals play Railsplitters to a draw

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte played Lincoln Memorial University, ranked sixth in the southeast region, to a 0-0 draw following 110 minutes of women's soccer action at Dickson Field. The Royals now sit at 3-2-2 in South Atlantic Conference play and 5-6-2 on the season, while the Railsplitters are 5-1-1 in the SAC and 7-2-1 on the year. Before tonight's game, the Railsplitters sat in four-way tie for first place in the league.

The Royals' defense has stepped up huge in the past week, only allowing Newberry one goal in their win over Queens and holding a very good Catawba team scoreless. Tonight was no different as Queens' backline remained just as strong, holding the Railsplitters scoreless in the opening half despite Lincoln-Memorial getting seven shots off.

Queens' offense was much more active in the second half, holding possession for long stretches throughout the period. They would get eight shot attempts off in the final 45 minutes of regulation. A shot in the final minute of action by the Royals found the back of the net, but it would be called off due to an off sides call, taking the game into overtime.

The Railsplitters sent nine shots in Queens goalkeeper Emily Mager's direction, but they would come up scoreless once again due to Queens' tight defense.

Following the first overtime period, where zero shots were taken, the Royals relied on their defensive play once again to hold out for the tie. Mager would come up huge in one of Lincoln Memorial's strongest opportunities to put one in the net, collecting a save on a header from Michelle Hunter.

Lincoln Memorial outshot Queens 18-10 and won six corners to Queens' two. Mager finished in goal with three saves.

The Royals will have a week to rest before traveling to take on Mars Hill University on October 18.
