Women’s soccer falls to Clayton State

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team fell 4-0 today in a nonconference game with Clayton State University at the Queens Sports Complex. The loss brings the Royals' record to 1-1, while the Lakers improve to 2-0.
 
In the first half of play, both teams fired off five shots apiece. Clayton State was able to connect on one in the 34th minute when Alicia Robinson dribbled up the middle of the field and booted the ball over Queens' keeper, and into the back of the net.
 
Clayton state would go on to score three goals in the second half to secure the road win. In the 63rd minute Natalie Valentine shot a ball from the right side and into the goal as Queens' keeper left the goal to contest. Around seven minutes later, the Lakers' Saidhbh Collins headed the ball into the net off of a cross from Lea Notthoff. Clayton State's final goal of the game was another header in the 79th minute from Josefine Holsten. Holsten met a corner kick from Collins in the box to score the goal.
 
Queens' Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) led in shots with three, while Nicole Hoff (Cary, N.C., Cary) led the Royals in shots on goal with two. Goalkeeper Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury) collected five saves.
 
Earning the shutout win for the Lakers was Charlotte McCormack who also had five saves.  
 
The Royals will travel to take on Wingate University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
