Queens Volleyball opens season with a split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. LEO, F.L. – The Queens University of Charlotte Volleyball team travelled to Florida to open their season in the St. Leo University Classic. The Royals started play this morning with a 3-0 win again the University of Charleston, but later fell to the University of Montavello in the afternoon session.

In the first game Queens was paced by juniors Keri Kemp (Lake Mary) and Anna Gibbs (Hickory)who each finished the game with nine kills. Also leading the Royals was the freshman duo of Elizabeth Bialkowski (Millbrook) andMcKenzie Martin (Stratford). Bialkowski had seven kills, while Martin led the team with 21 assists. Defensively it was junior libero McKenzie Martin (Stratford) who led the team with 12 digs. 

The Royals controlled the pace of play against Charleston, and used their efficiency to earn the victory by scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-23.

In the afternoon match against Montevallo Queens dropped the match in 3 sets by scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-19. Offensively it was Gibbs who led the team with eight kills, and Martin who added 16 assists.

The Royals return to action tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. against Southwest Baptist University, and 7 p.m. against St. Leo University.  Both matched will be streamed live at http://saintleolions.com.
