No. 19 Bears defeat Royals

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team traveled to face the No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears this evening falling 4-0 in non-conference action. The Royals fall to 4-6-1 on the season, while the Bears improve to 8-1.
 
The Bears outshot the Royals 35-6 tonight en route to picking up the home win.
 
In the first half Lenoir-Rhyne got a goal on the board 1:16 into play when Leah Mullins found the back of the net. Queens' Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) made an attempt to equalize the match in the 14th minute, but her efforts were foiled by Lenoir-Rhyne's keeper, Caitlin Scruggs. Scruggs would stop another of Queens' shots on frame, this time coming from Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale), in the 29th enabling the Bears to hold their 1-0 lead heading into the break.  
 
Queens' keeper, Emily Mager (Lawrenceburg, Ky., Anderson County)  turned away two shots on goal by the Bears in the second before Lenoir-Rhyne's Garcelle Alequine netted a goal in the 55th giving the Bears a 2-0 lead. Queens' Foil recorded a shot on goal soon after with the hopes of cutting the Bears' lead in half, but another save from Scruggs left Queens still on the hunt. Ariel Dominguez of Lenior-Rhyne would put the home team up 3-0 with her goal in the 68th following a saved shot by Mager. In the 73rd Alequine of the Bears possessed a deflected ball and placed it in the net for the 4-0 score which would hold until the end of regulation.  
 
Mager ended this evening's game with a season high 12 saves after facing 17 shots on goal.
 
Queens returns home on Saturday to host Barton College at 5 p.m.
