Royals fall in OT in quarterfinal round

Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Nadia Butt's (Houston, Texas, Cypress Lakes) late game goal knotted this afternoon's quarterfinal round match between Queens University of Charlotte and Pfeiffer University at 1-1 forcing the game into overtime. However, Kayla Rodriguez of the Falcons would net a goal 3:06 into the extra period ending the match at 2-1 in Pfeiffer's favor.

The Falcons advance to the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament with the win, while the Royals complete their season at 9-9-1.

Pfeiffer was first to strike getting on the board in the 22nd when Rodriguez assisted Aaliyah Jackson on a goal. Jackson received a long pass from Rodriguez before breaking past Queens' back line to score.

Late in the second half the intensity picked up and a foul called on Pfeiffer resulted in a yellow for the Falcons and red card for Queens. Forced to continue the match a man down, the Royals sent a free kick into play. Butt would corral the long pass to chip her shot up and just under the crossbar to help send the contest into overtime.

After both teams traded early possessions at midfield to start overtime, Rodriguez would snag a loose ball and dribble just into the box before firing her shot inside the left post connecting on the game-winner.

Queens was outshot 17-12 by the Falcons with Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury) turning away five on goal from Pfeiffer. Britt Polly stopped two of Queens' shots on goal.
