WILSON, N.C. – Megan Sload (Conestoga, Pa., Penn Manor) and
Lauren Vawter (Mooresville, N.C., Lake Norman ) led the way netting two goals apiece as the Royals put on a show at Barton College defeating the Bulldogs 7-1. Tonight's win was the second in a row for Queens as they improve to 3-1 in the league and 3-6 overall. Barton drops to 2-4 in Conference Carolinas and 2-5 on the season.
Samantha Striano (Clearwater, Fla., Countryside ),
Kathryn Sylvester (Cary, N.C., Apex ) and
Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) also notched goals in the match. The Royals outshot the Bulldogs 32-to-12, and won five corner kicks to Bartons zero.
Kelsey Seretis earned the win in goal while collecting four saves.
Breanna Briggs scored the only goal for the home team. Carson Moore took the loss in goal after getting 14 stops on the evening.
The Royals were able to build a healthy lead in the first half after scoring four goals to Barton's one. Sylvester struck first scoring a ball crossed to her by Striano from the left corner in transition almost four minutes into play. Her goal was soon followed with an unassisted one scored by Sload on a breakaway.
Briggs broke up Queens' scoring with Barton's lone goal in the 26
th minute after a shooting a ball from the left side that found the back of the net inside the far post.
Queens responded with two more goals scored by Vawter and Striano ending the half up 4-1.
Heather Wilemon (Statesville, N.C., Statesville) assisted on Striano's.
Wright found a goal in the 49
th minute of the second half after collecting a deflected ball and firing it into the net. About 12 minutes passed before the Royals struck again. Vawter and Wright would team up this time beating Barton's keeper up the middle for Vawters sixth goal of the year. The final goal of the game was netted by Sload.
Queens will play host to North Greenville on Saturday at the Queens Sports Complex. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
