BANNER ELK, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis stuns No. 28 Lees-McRae (6-8/5-2CC) today in an important Conference Carolinas contest. The win keeps the Royals (10-2) in second place in the league standings with their perfect 6-0 conference record.
Queens won the contest 7-2, dropping one singles match and one singles match.
The No. 12 pairing of
Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, L'Essor Secondary School) and
Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's) suffered their first loss of the spring season. Lees-McRae's Nandor Solymosi and Travis VanHoy defeated the Royals 8-6.
No. 20 Lee-Daigle rebounded by defeating No. 21 Solmosi in a close contest, 6-3, 6-4.
The entire match-up was hard fought and close as four of the six matches went to three sets. David Hannon (Gastonia, N.C., Episcopal Alexandria), Joshua Bloch (Johannesburg, South Africa, King David) and Dhruva all went down in the first set of their respective matches, but battled back to win the next two sets. The resilient efforts turned in helped to secure the Royals impressive victory.
The Royals have two conference matches left, one with league-leading Limestone and the other against Pfeiffer.
