CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The women's tennis team (12-3/7-1) rolled over Pfeiffer (9-9/5-3) by a score of 6-1 and are now in second place in Conference Carolinas standings heading into their last match. The men's team also made light work of the Falcons, though they were forced to spread their win over two days when rain caused a postponement of the Saturday matches.
The women's team swept doubles play for the third consecutive match.
Queens won in singles flights two, three and four, but lost in the top spot. Playing in No. 1 was
Christina Rustscheff (Toronto, Canada, Bayview Glen) and this is the first time she has lost while playing in the top spot. She fell to Pfeiffer's Alena Krutkina by scores of 6-1, 7-5. Rustschef is now 3-1 when playing No. 1.
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson),
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) and
Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) all handled their respective opponents quiet easily. Williams won6-1, 6-4, Roberts won6-1, 6-2 and Poole went 6-1, 6-0.
The men's team advances to 6-0 in league play and 10-2 overall. The Royals were up 4-2 when the match was called on Saturday and won 5-2.
Queens dropped two-of-three doubles matches to the Falcons.
David Hannon (Gastonia, N.C., Episcopal Alexandria) and
Joshua Bloch (Johannesburg, South Africa, King David) picked up the only doubles win, defeating Ben Hunter and Stephan Tyndel 8-4.
In singles play, four out of six matches were finished and Queens won them all. After winning the first three singles flights the match was called due to inclement weather and the Royals were forced to return on Sunday to finish up.
Ignacio Casali (Farmingdale, N.Y., Farmingdale) moved past Tyndel with ease, winning 6-3, 6-3. Casali's win secured the victory for Queens, an important one as it keeps them in the hunt for the Conference Carolinas Championship.
