BRISTOL Tenn. – Queens men's tennis picked up its fourth straight win, topping King (Tenn.) 5-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Coming in winning their previous two matches 9-0, the Royals appeared to be on their way to another clean sweep – taking all three doubles matches by a combined 24-5 for an early 3-0 lead over the Tornados (8-4).
Nonconference rules call for matches to conclude once a team reaches five points to secure the victory, leaving the Royals just two points shy of a quick win.
With Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, L'Essor Secondary School) battling Jose Avila late into the third set and David Hannon (Gastonia, N.C., Episcopal Alexandria) falling 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to Pablo Vidal in flights one and two, Joshua Bloch (Johannesburg, South Africa, King David) and Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's) took their cue to pick up the game-winning points in the third and fourth flights with 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 wins, respectively.
Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario) and Ignacio Casali (Farmingdale, N.Y., Farmingdale) were scheduled to fill the slate in the five and six flights, but never took the court.
Leading Erskine (1-5, 1-3) by 2.5 games in the conference standings, the Royals will travel to Due West, S.C. for a March 12 matchup with the Flying Fleet.
