NEW ORLEANS, La.- Queens University of Charlotte's Scott Simmons was named the Southeast Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading his runners a fifth-consecutive region title. The award was announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The division's coaches voted on the awards.
Simmons' Royals won the Southeast region with a 62-82 victory over Mount Olive. Placing their top four in the region's top seven. A few weeks prior, they swept the top four spots at the Conference Carolinas Championships for the third-straight league crown in a row.
The women's team under Simmons' leadership also captured the region title this year. Both team had members recognized on the all-region team following the meet.
Kimone Hewitt (Orange County, Calif., Segerstown),
Rosa Young (Spartanburg, South Carolina, Dorman High School),
Nathalie De Vos (Tienen, Belgium, Onze Lieve Vrouw Visitatie),
Emilia Skolubowicz (Myslowice, Poland, Myslowice) and
Mathilde Timboni (Prévessin-Möens, France, Prévessin-Möens) made the cut for the women, while
Felix Duchampt (Clermont Ferrand, France, Lycée Jeanne d'Arc ),
Chris Enriquez (Downey, Calif., Warren),
Anthony Mallory (Merced, Calif., Golden Valley Merced ) and
Simon Stuetzel (Meinborn, Germany) made it for the men.
Both the men's and women's teams will be competing in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships hosted by the GNAC, Saturday, November 19, at the Plantes Ferry Sports Complex in Spokane, Wash.
