CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team dropped their second game of the season against fifth-ranked Carson-Newman College in the day two of the 2010 Queens Women's Soccer Tournament. The Eagles defeated the Royals 3-1 in a non-conference match up.
Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale) scored the lone goal for the Royals in the 26th minute of play. Sami Striano fed Foil the ball from the right side as Foil ran in to score the goal. Foil's goal was the only of the first half as the Royals led 1-0 going in to the locker room.
The Eagles got on the board early in the second half. Bianca Hall flicked a ball over Royals goalkeeper Michelle Landry (Atlanta, Ga., Druid Hills ) and into the net in the 46th minute of the game. Her goal was followed up with another by Morgan Gruenenfelder in the 73rd minute. Gruenenfelder rebounded a ball off a Landry save and booted it in for a 2-0 lead.
Howell connected with Hall again in the 85th minute giving the game a final score of 3-1.
Landry ended the game with seven saves while Tompkins of the Eagles tallied two. The Royals were outshot 24 to six in the game by the Eagles. Carson-Newman was whistled for ten fouls while Queens totaled six.
Megan Sload (Conestoga, Pa., Penn Manor)and Foil each recorded two shots on the day. Howell led the Eagles with six shots, five on goal. Andrea Saevik and hall were close behind Howell with five shots apiece.
Queens will be back in action Wednesday, September 8, as they travel to Wingate University.
