CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The women's soccer team at Queens University of Charlotte took out the number two preseason favorite Pfeiffer University tonight at the Queens Sports Complex. Amanda Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside ) scored the game winning goal giving the Royals a 2-1 win over Conference Carolinas foe, Pfeiffer. Queens remains undefeated in conference play at 2-0 (2-3 overall) while the Falcons open up Conference Carolinas action at 0-1 (2-3 overall).
Sami Striano (Clearwater, Fla., Countryside ) scored her first goal of the season in the 27th minute of play giving Queens a 1-0 lead. Katherine Carr (Upper Marlboro, Md. , St. Mary's ) took a shot that was rebounded by Kelsey Howard (Marietta, Ga., Dominion Christian). Howard dished the ball to Striano who found the back of the net from 10 feet out. Queens held their lead for the rest of the first half.
Pfeiffer struck first in the second half scoring with 48:56 on the clock. Erin Menzel served a ball in to play which was headed into the net by Alyssa Wombwell for at 1-1 tie.
Wright soon answered scoring the game-winning-goal in the 56th minute of play. The Wrights connected again as Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) assisted on the play.
Megan Hirschy (Fort Wayne, Ind., Shattuck-St.Mary's School) made her season debut tonight in goal accumulating three saves for Queens. Pfeiffer goalkeeper Jaime Alcala tallied four.
Queens will be back in action on Saturday, September 18th at 2:00 p.m., when they travel to Coker College.
