CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sisters Amanda and Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) combined for three of the five goals scored in route to the Royals' 5-0 win over St. Andrews Presbyterian College Friday evening at the Queens Sports Complex. Queens University of Charlotte opens up their conference play with a 1-0 record (1-3 overall), while St. Andrews falls to 0-1 in Conference Carolinas action (0-3 overall).
With 6:34 on the clock, Amanda Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside )struck first booting the ball into the net from inside the box. Kristen Wright assisted the goal with a cross from the left sideline. In the eighth minute of play, A. Wright returned the favor as K. Wright scored a header from in front of the net giving the Royals a 2-0 lead before 10 minutes of play. Both goals were the first of the season for each Wright.
K. Wright found the back of the net again in the 27th minute of play after Kathryn Sylvester (Cary, N.C., Apex ) broke away at midfield before sending the ball up to Wright. Sarah Johnson (West Columbia, S.C., Brookland-Cayce) was next to find her first goal of the season with a one timer inside the box off a cross from Rose Balderson (Trappe, Md., Saints Peter and Paul ).
Queens went into the locker room winning 4-0 and leading in shots 14 to one.
Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale) scored the final goal of the game in the 51st minute cleaning up a long pass missed by Knights goalkeeper Becca Knott. Sami Striano was awarded the assist.
Queens finished the game outshooting St. Andrews 22-7. Both Michelle Landry (Atlanta, Ga., Druid Hills ) and Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury) saw time in goal combining for four saves. The entire Queens roster saw time on the field in the win tonight.
Marie Savage led the St. Andrews offense with two shots. Knott tallied six saves.
Queens will be back in action at home against Pfeiffer University on Thursday, September 16th at 6:00p.m.
