CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's tennis programs had a successful Tuesday afternoon, as both teams defeated Pfeiffer University. The women's team dominated the visiting Falcons, 8-1, to improve to 7-0 (12-0) on the year and remain in first place in the Conference Carolinas. The men's team won a back-and-forth battle for 5-4 victory to improve to 3-3 (7-3) on the year.
The women were lead in the top-flight by
Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School), who topped Alena Krutkina 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Sweeping through the doubles matches, the Royals came within an extra-set match between second-flights
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) and Patty Dominguez. of a 9-0 sweep. Williams rallied to win the second set, 6-2, after falling, 3-6, in the first. Williams ran out of gas late in the match, falling 7-6, and just short of a Royals sweep.
Joshua Bloch (Johannesburg, South Africa, King David) flourishing against the Falcons, teaming with
Christopher Kennedy (Colorado Springs, Co., TCA) to win the third-flight doubles match against Ryan Kerr and Michael Worthington in extra sets, 9-8. Bloch's second-flight singles match against Philip Lawson started the same way his double match ended – in extra sets – winning 7-6 before putting Lawson away 6-4 for the win. Kennedy was the only other Royal to win both of his matches Tuesday, topping Worthington for the second time in the afternoon, 6-4, 6-3.
Both programs will return to action to action Thursday, April 1st when they visit Limestone College for a 3:00 p.m. match.
