MORROW, Ga. – Freshmen Sarah Hawley (Charleston, W.Va., Capital) and Hope Hartman (Lillington, N.C., Homeschool) each notched three points in tonight's road win against Southeast Region opponent Clayton State University. The Royals (7-7 6-2) defeated the Lakers (4-9 2-6), of the Peach Belt Conference, 3-1 with four key starters sitting out due to injuries.
Queens University of Charlotte took 10 shots in the first half scoring on the last. Hope Hartman scored her second goal of the year assisted by Hawley. Hawley crossed a ball from the left side that Hartman fired in to the net at 41:56.
The Royals outshot the Lakers 10-6 in the first half.
Hawley completed her three points scoring a goal in the 76th minute. A deflected ball found Hawley's feet and she took a shot from the left wing for the second goal of the game. Freshman defender Jennifer Swanstrom (Houston, Texas, Cypress Falls) was awarded the assist on the play.
Megan Sload (Conestoga, Pa., Penn Manor) scored the final Queens goal assisted by Hartman. After feeding a corner kick to Hartman, Sload received the ball back to boot a shot from the left side into the net.
Cherie Sayon scored the lone Lakers' goal assisted by Caitlin Clark in the 88th minute.
Queens outshot Clayton State 23-15 in tonight's win. The Royals also won the battle for corner kicks four-to-two. Michelle Landry (Atlanta, Ga., Druid Hills ) saw 90 minutes in goal collecting six saves and the win. Stefanie Cola of the Lakers was awarded the loss and had eight saves.
The Royals have three more regular season games before play-offs begin. They will travel to face Converse College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in search of their seventh conference win.
