CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Lauren Vawter (Mooresville, N.C., Lake Norman ) and Sarah Hawley (Charleston, W.Va., Capital) notched one goal apiece leading Queens University of Charlotte past Limestone College this afternoon for a 2-0 win. The Royals improve to 6-2 in conference play (6-7 overall) holding on to the second place spot in Conference Carolinas. Limestone (3-3 5-6-1) is now in fifth place after the home loss.
Vawter scored her second goal of the season 22 minutes in to the game putting the Royals on the board first. Megan Sload was awarded the assist after feeding Vawter the ball on a free kick.
Queens held on to their lead throughout the first and second half holding the Saints to two shots-on-goal.
Sarah Hawley got her first career goal after scoring an insurance goal in the 88th minute. Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale) assisted on the play after taking a shot from the rightside that was collected and put in the net by Hawley.
Queens outshot Limestone 14-10 and won the battle for corner kicks 6-2. Michelle Landry (Atlanta, Ga., Druid Hills ) was awarded the shutout after collecting two saves in the win.
The Royals have little time to rest as they will travel to Clayton State University Monday for a game slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
